Here the adjective beautiful modifies the noun girl.

Here the adverb beautifully modifies the verb sang.

Adjectives can be the complement of a verb of incomplete predication (is/am/are/was/were). Adverbs cannot be used like this.

4. Why are you speaking so ................................?

Correct! Wrong!

We use the adverb loudly to modify the verb speaking.

5. He is a .................................... learner.

Correct! Wrong!

Fast can be an adjective and an adverb. There is no such word as fastly.

6. I know him .................................. well.

Correct! Wrong!

Quite is the adverb. There is no such word as quitely.

7. Proofread your work ...................................... before submitting it.

Correct! Wrong!

Here the adverb carefully modifies the verb proofread.

8. You have done an ....................................... job.

Correct! Wrong!

Here we use the adjective excellent to modify the noun job.

9. I thought I would pass the test ..................................., but I failed after all.

Here we need the adverb easily to modify the verb pass.

Of late is similar to lately.
