Answers

1. She asked me whether she could come with me. / She asked me if she could come with me.

2. The constable asked the man what he was doing there at that hour of the night.

3. He said that he was not feeling well, so I suggested that he should see a doctor. (Suggest cannot be followed by a to-infinitive.)

4. He asked me whether I could lend him some money. (After the modal auxiliary verbs, we use the first form of the verb.)

5. That the city would surrender without a blow was generally expected in the camp.

6. Astronomers have been able to prove that the sun is stationary and that the earth and other planets move around the sun.

7. He lost the letter that had been entrusted to him.
