This grammar exercise tests your understanding of basic grammar rules.

1. Everything ...................... he said was wrong.

After quantifiers like all, every and everything, we prefer that to which.

2. ...................... she said made me angry.

Correct! Wrong!

What means the things which.

3. Everybody .......................... arrived.

Correct! Wrong!

After expressions like every, everyone and everybody we use a singular verb.

4. If you ................. happen to finish early, give me a ring.

Correct! Wrong!

We use should happen in the if-clause to suggest that something is very unlikely.

5. If she should be late, we .................... have to leave without her.

Would is uncommon in the main clause after 'if...should'.

7. My jeans ....................... too tight for me.

Correct! Wrong!

The noun jeans is plural and has no singular form.

8. A lot of social problems ........................... caused by poverty.

Correct! Wrong!

If the noun following 'a lot of' is plural, we use a plural verb.

9. A lot of time ............................ required to learn a language.

If the noun following 'a lot of' is singular, we use a singular verb.

10. 'We have got only two liters of milk left.' '............................. not enough.'

Correct! Wrong!

When we talk about amounts and quantities, we often use singular verbs.

11. You are too ....................... to be a soldier.

Correct! Wrong!

We use small to refer to size.

12. It was ...................... hot that we stopped playing.

Correct! Wrong!

Very and too cannot be followed by a that-clause.
