1. She recognized him. She didn’t smile at him.

2. He had a headache. He couldn’t enjoy the movie.

4. She works overtime. She wants to pay off her debts.

5. I don’t understand his theories. I have great respect for him.

6. She wanted to catch the early train. She started before dawn.

7. I was walking down the street. I saw Phil.

8. He was working in the garage. His friends arrived then.

9. I opened the window. The cat jumped out.

10. She searched everywhere. She couldn’t find the keys.

3. Although he had a headache, he enjoyed the movie.

4. She works overtime because she wants to pay off her debts.

5. I don’t understand his theories but I have great respect for him. / Although I don’t understand his theories I have  great respect for him.

6. She wanted to catch the early train so she started before dawn.

7. As I was walking down the street, I saw Phil.

8. He was working in the garage when his friends arrived.
