Answers

1. James plays hockey as well as cricket.

2. He must be asleep for there is no light in his room.

3. He speaks Hindi as well as English.

5. There was little hope of success, nevertheless I tried hard.

6. He will neither spend his money nor invest it.

7. He is either a fool or a madman.

8. He has been working hard, so he will pass.

9. I did my best, but I failed.

10. The way was long and the wind was cold.

Notes

A compound sentence must have two or more coordinate clauses. If we want to combine two or more simple sentences into one compound sentence we have to use a coordinating conjunction like and, but, or, as well as, whereas or neither …nor.
