Fill in the blanks.

1. One of my sisters ......................... abroad.

We are talking about one person here; hence, we need a singular verb.

2. The mother cat along with her kittens ......................... taken shelter under the bushes.

Correct! Wrong!

When we connect two nouns with along with, the verb agrees with the noun that goes before along with.

3. Neither of them ........................... hard.

Correct! Wrong!

Use a singular verb after neither or either.

4. All the guests .......................... come.

Correct! Wrong!

5. Everybody ......................... arrived.

Correct! Wrong!

Use a singular verb after everybody.

6. Twenty rupees ....................... not a big amount.

Correct! Wrong!

7. One of the students .......................... failed the exam.

Correct! Wrong!

8. My uncle and guardian ......................... an eminent advocate.

Correct! Wrong!

Here both nouns refer to the same person; hence, we use a singular verb. If they refer to different people, we will use an article or another determiner with each of them.

9. Each of the boys .......................... rewarded for their honesty and bravery.

Correct! Wrong!

Use a singular verb with each.

10. One of my cats .......................... gone missing.

Correct! Wrong!

11. The officer as well as his subordinates ......................... corrupt.

Correct! Wrong!

When we connect two nouns with as well as, the verb agrees with the former.

12. Both Raju and his friends ......................... guilty.

Correct! Wrong!
