1. The battle of Haldighati was fought in the sixteenth century. Maharana Pratap was defeated in the battle. A number of soldiers were killed. Many of them were taken prisoners. He escaped to the jungles of Mewar. He was pursued by the Mughal Army but was not captured.

2. Last week, a cricket match for Prime Minister’s Drought Relief Fund was played at Jawahar Lal Nehru Stadium.

3. The tomatoes were picked when they were ripe.

4. Many people were killed in the riots.

5. A young boy was burnt alive by the rioters.

6. Unauthorized huts in many parts of the city have been demolished. (The present perfect tense is the most normal tense for giving news of recent events.)

7. Ice cream was served after dinner.

8. The smugglers have been arrested.

9. The witness had been bribed and hence he gave the wrong evidence.
