Too vs. Enough

Fill in the blanks with too or enough.

Too and enough are adverbs. Enough can also be an adjective. As an adjective, enough goes before the noun modified by it. Enough shows sufficiency and has a positive meaning. Too has a negative meaning.

Correct! Wrong!

Enough shows sufficiency. It has a positive meaning. Too shows unwanted extremes. It has a negative meaning.

2. He works ............................. He never rests.

Correct! Wrong!

3. You didn't run .............................

Correct! Wrong!

4. This bag is .............................. for all my clothes.

Correct! Wrong!

5. He is .......................... to drive a car.

Correct! Wrong!

Either could be used here, but meanings are different. If he is too old, he cannot drive a car. If he is old enough, he can drive a car.

6. This jacket is ............................... for me. Do you have a smaller size?

Correct! Wrong!

7. It is ............................ to start a new chapter.

Correct! Wrong!

8. I didn't feel ............................ to go to work.

Correct! Wrong!

9. The piano was ........................... for us to move.

Correct! Wrong!

10. She is ........................... to be a public speaker.

Correct! Wrong!

11. He speaks .................................. to get by in Spain.

Correct! Wrong!

When enough modifies a noun, it goes before that noun.

12. She was .......................... to stand up to her bullies.

Correct! Wrong!

  1. He is fit enough to run long distances.
  2. He works too hard. He never rests.
  3. You didn’t run fast enough.
  4. This bag is too small for all my clothes.
  5. He is old enough/too old to drive a car.
  6. This jacket is too big for me. Do you have any smaller size?
