Fill in the blanks.

We usually use a singular verb after none.

All is followed by a plural noun and every is followed by a singular noun.

Use a plural verb after some.

4. There aren’t ……………………………….. people who can speak a foreign language perfectly.

Many people means several people.

5. Neither Sam nor his brothers …………………………………. got a job.

When we connect a singular verb and a plural verb with neither/nor, the verb agrees with the noun close to nor.

6. Either James or Peter …………………………….. eaten the candy.

Correct! Wrong!

When we connect two singular nouns with either/or, the verb is singular.

7. Not ……………………………… friend who is a girl is your girlfriend.

Correct! Wrong!

8. There weren’t ………………………………. participants.

Correct! Wrong!

Use many with plural nouns. Few is a negative word. It is not used after not.

9. We haven’t got …………………………. money.

Correct! Wrong!

Use much with uncountable nouns. A lot of is usually used in affirmative sentences.

10. There were only ……………………………….. applications.

Correct! Wrong!

The expression only a few indicates a small number.

11. I haven’t eaten …………………………….. since morning.

Correct! Wrong!

Use anything in questions and negatives.

12. …………………………… people are nice.

Correct! Wrong!

Use many or most before a noun without a determiner.
