Fill in the blanks with a verb form that agrees with the subject in number and person.

We use each before a singular noun. The verb is also singular.

3. Natives of India …………….. black hair.

Correct! Wrong!

Here the plural verb ‘have’ agrees with the plural subject ‘natives’.

4. The climate of London …………….. not suit my health.

Correct! Wrong!

Here the subject is the singular noun ‘climate’ and hence we use the singular verb ‘does’.

5. My sister and I ……………… pleased to accept your invitation.

Correct! Wrong!

When two singular nouns are connected by ‘and’ the verb should be plural.

6. Each one of these apples …………….. red.

Correct! Wrong!

We use a singular verb after each one and every one.

7. The whole class ……………… listening to the speech.

Correct! Wrong!

The expression ‘the whole class’ indicates a single entity and therefore we use a singular verb with it.

8. My sister and my brother ……………… at the party.

Correct! Wrong!

When two singular nouns are connected by and, they take a plural verb.

9. She and I …………….. having dinner together.

Correct! Wrong!

When two singular nouns are connected by and, they take a plural verb.

10. Neither red nor green ……………… me.

Correct! Wrong!

The verb is singular when 'neither' and 'nor' connect two singular nouns.

11. Either Jack or Peter ……………. to clean the room.

Correct! Wrong!

When we connect two nouns with ‘either…or’, the verb agrees with the noun after ‘or’.

12. The President, as well as the Prime Minister, ……………… visiting Moscow.

Correct! Wrong!

We can connect two subjects with as well as. If the first subject is singular, the verb is also singular.
