Correct or Incorrect Exercise

July 15, 2024 - B2pdf

Say whether the following sentences are correct or incorrect.

Progress 0 of 12 answered
1Even I tried, I could not succeed.
Wrong!
Choose "Incorrect" because the sentence needs "Even though I tried, I could not succeed."
2He sat there smiling if it was his birthday.
Wrong!
Choose "Incorrect" because the sentence needs "as if" to mean "as though."
3You had better not annoy him.
Wrong!
Choose "Correct" because "had better not" is the right form for strong advice not to do something.
4She doesn't have some manners.
Wrong!
Choose "Incorrect" because a negative sentence normally uses "any" here: "She doesn't have any manners."
5Never I have seen such a mess!
Wrong!
Choose "Incorrect" because a sentence beginning with negative "Never" needs inversion: "Never have I seen such a mess!"
6He wouldn't let me to speak.
Wrong!
Choose "Incorrect" because "let" is followed by an object and the base verb: "He wouldn't let me speak."
7I would rather you don't go.
Wrong!
Choose "Incorrect" because "would rather" about another person's action takes a past form: "I would rather you didn't go."
8It has been raining for hours.
Wrong!
Choose "Correct" because the present perfect continuous is natural with "for hours."
9She works on a new project at the moment.
Wrong!
Choose "Incorrect" because "at the moment" needs the present continuous here: "She is working on a new project at the moment."
10It hasn't rained since ages.
Wrong!
Choose "Incorrect" because a duration takes "for": "It hasn't rained for ages."
11I thought that I will get the job.
Wrong!
Choose "Incorrect" because future-in-the-past after "thought" usually uses "would": "I thought that I would get the job."
12She is good at drawing.
Wrong!
Choose "Correct" because after "good at" we use a noun or gerund such as "drawing."
Done.
