Fill in the blanks with an appropriate tense form.

When both clauses refer to the future, we use a present tense in the subordinate clause.

In third conditional, we use a past perfect in the if-clause and would/could/might + have + past participle in the main clause.

In type 2 conditional. we use a simple past in the if-clause and would + infinitive in the main clause.

Use the simple present to talk about facts.

Correct! Wrong!

Use the simple past when we say when something happened.

Use the present perfect to talk about a finished event whose effect is still felt in the present.

9. They …………………………………. the job by Monday.

Use the future perfect to say that an activity will have completed by a certain point of time in future.

10. Grandpa ……………………………….. in the afternoon.

Correct! Wrong!

The present continuous is considered more appropriate in this context.

11. I asked him if he ………………………………help me.

Correct! Wrong!

12. He …………………………….. care of abandoned dogs and cats since he was a boy.

Correct! Wrong!

Use the present perfect continuous to talk about an action or situation that started in the past and has continued up to the present.
