Time expressions used with tenses Exercise

Rewrite the following sentences using the words given in the brackets, in their correct forms.
Hints
The time expressions used in a sentence determines the tense form. To talk about something that was happening at a particular point of time in the past, we use the past continuous tense. To talk about quickly finished past events, we use the simple past tense. To talk about our habits we use the simple present tense.

  • He was playing tennis all day yesterday.
  • He played tennis yesterday.
  • He plays tennis every day.

Use the present continuous with "at the moment", so the correct answer is "is barking".

Use the past simple for a completed action with "last night", so the correct answer is "barked".
6I ............... the newspaper every morning.

Use the present simple with routines, so the correct answer is "read".
7I ............... the newspaper at the moment.
Wrong!
Use the present continuous with "at the moment", so the correct answer is "am reading".
8He ............... me English for three hours last Sunday.
Wrong!
Use the past simple with a finished time such as "last Sunday", so the correct answer is "taught".
9He ............... me English at the moment.
Wrong!
Use the present continuous with "at the moment", so the correct answer is "is teaching".

Use the present simple with routines, so the correct answer is "teaches".
