Conjunctions are words used to connect two clauses. There are mainly two types of conjunctions – coordinating conjunctions and subordinating conjunctions.

Complete the following sentences using an appropriate coordinating conjunction.

Use "for" to give the reason for the speaker's conclusion.
9He tried hard, ............... he did not succeed.
Wrong!
Use "but" to contrast trying hard with not succeeding.
10The parents were horrified, ............... they saw bloodstains on the floor and no sign of their child.

Use "for" to introduce the reason why the parents were horrified.
