If not means the same as unless.

If not means the same as unless.

The above sentence can also be written as: If you don't try, you will never win.

11. ................................ you don't pay up, you will be in trouble.

The above sentence can also be written as: Unless you pay up, you will be in trouble.

Unless is not possible here because it means if not.
