As well as means ‘in addition to’.

We can combine two sentences using as well as.

Study the example given below.

  • Trees give us fruits. They also give us shade.

We can combine these two sentences using as well as.

  • Trees give us fruits as well as shade.

Another example is given below.

  • She owns a car. She owns a motorbike.
  • She owns a car as well as a motorbike.

When we combine two subjects with as well as, the verb is likely to be singular if the first subject is singular.

  • Maya is studying for the test. Her friends are studying for the test.
  • Maya as well as her friends is studying for the test.
  • The moon gives us light at night. The stars also give us light.
  • The moon as well as the stars gives us light at night.

Combine the following sentences using as well as.

1. She is greedy. She is dishonest.

2. He is well-educated. His sister is well-educated.

3. Peter is innocent. His friend is also innocent.

4. Animals need food to survive. Plants need food to survive.

5. The cow gives us milk. The goat gives us milk.

6. Elephants are found in India. They are also found in Africa.

7. The chairman attended the meeting. The secretary attended the meeting.

Answers

1. She is greedy as well as dishonest.

2. He as well as his sister is well-educated.

3. Peter as well as his friend is innocent.

4. Animals as well as plants need food to survive.
